It’s been a while since I actually did anything on this website, and I figure now is as good a time as any to start. I’d really like to do more with the blog aspect. So, here’s my first real blog post!
Walking home in the early hours of the morning is surprisingly pleasant. I’ve never done this before, not alone. Yesterday, I walked for a bit with some other girls, at around 3 in the morning, and then took a taxi when our paths split, but today, following a rather nice, if occasionally dramatic, party with good friends, I waited for first light and then took to my feet.
I took roughly half an hour, maybe a bit more since I stopped for a bite to eat at a Deli de Luca, where I was engaged in conversation by some, I believe, Finnish guys. They were a bit odd… Or, I suppose, simply drunk.
The unexpected part of my homeward journey was that it wasn’t at all scary to walk alone. There were few people around, I had my music in my ears, and it was all rather nice. Bit chilly, but nice, and scenic. Sometimes you can’t see the city for all the people, but at 4:30 on a Sunday morning, the only ones out are a few drunk people on their way home and newspaper deliverers.
Walking home from a party seems like a trivial matter, I’m sure, but to me in kind of marks a step. It’s something I’ve never done before. I think two days before my 22nd birthday was a good time to do it. I think, or hope, that there are a lot of other firsts to come this year. Studying abroad will be one. Living by myself on a campus rather than at home or with friends will be another. We’ll see about the rest.
I’ve run out of thoughts, possibly because I’m too bloody tired to think straight, so I’ll leave you with three simple words: I am happy.
